| Sports are a great activity for our children, and a great way for adults, as coaches, to give to children and the community. Participation in an athletic activity can be fun and competitive at the same time. Parents enjoy watching their son or daughter compete, whether it is a team sport and their child is a member of the team, or it is a more individual sport and their child competes on his or her own against others. Competition can bring out the best in us, but it can also arouse difficult to manage feelings. These reactions are most problematic when parents and coaches come into conflict with each other. If these issues do not get resolved in a positive way, the child usually ends of being the one hurt. Coaches can also have conflicts with players, athletic directors, or supporters. If these conflicts go unresolved, it is the team that ultimately suffers. Mediation can resolve these conflicts in a way that satisfies each party and returns harmony to the team.
